Health Care & Dental Programmes

Personal Support Worker (Part Time) - Smiths Falls

This programme is offered both part-time and full-time

Programme Description
The Personal Support Worker programme is a 35-week, part-time or 20-week, full-time diploma course registered under the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities.

This programme was developed as part of the Ontario Government’s plan to reform long-term care and support services which are provided to people in long-term care facilities or living at home in the community.

A PSW assists with the tasks of daily living. Services are provided in homes and apartments in the community, in long-term care facilities, congregate housing settings, hospitals and day programmes. Personal Support Workers must develop a broad range of abilities beyond dexterity skills. They must provide not only for the comfort, safety and well-being of their clients, but also demonstrate sensitivity and respect for those in their care. The attitude, abilities and approach of the worker are critical to the well-being and health of the people they support.

In the part-time course, class meets one to two evening per week from 6:00pm – 10:00pm and approximately one or two weekends per month. In the full-time course, class meets 5 days per week from 9:00am – 4:00pm. There is a placement component at the end of both the full and part-time courses.
